I want to get a clam but I'm not sure which one. I am looking for a clam that will go into a 55 gallon tank with metal halides. The tank is cycled and has been running for 2 months or so. Any suggestions?
It needs to be blue that will pop under actinic lights. I don't care how big it is or gets.

Any clam species you want but I stick with Maxima. They are the most colorful. I have not seen a good Crocea for sale lately.

Why is the spider crab a problem? I didnt mean for my question to sound like i was getting it now. I was planning on waiting.

crabs of any sort that have actual claws are potential probs. decorator crabs have been known to love clam chowder

If you look at the claws of a crab, it it is blunted spoon shaped tip, then they are omnivore but more likely eat (more) algae and a scavenger. It the claws are sharp pointy, they are big trouble in a reef.

I can't really tell but they are kind ofrounded and kind of sharp at the same time. I just noticed that it has little pieces of algae "decorated" on it. When I turned my MHs on the crab walked away but it stepped completely on my Yuma that's on the sand bed. I don't know if this will help or not.

The crabs claws aren't as thick as the one in the pic but are still pretty much the same on the very end.

Maximas are hardy but Ive found more growth on my squammy. It really depends on what color and patterns you like. clams 2 inches and under seem to be harder to care for until they get bigger meaning you might have to put some phytofeast in the column for a bit. Some will say that its not necessary to feed smaller clams but I find it helps IMPO
