I have a biocube 14 and the temp is reaching 83 while the room temp is not getting higher than 74. Looking for cooling suggestions. Also was wondering if removing the hood and using led lighting would be more effective to keep cooler temps than using a chiller.

Try shutting off your heater. It may not be calibrated right. Are your fans working when the lights are on? May need cleaning.

Read youre temp at night after a couple of hours the lights have been off, that way you can see if that is youre problem or if it is something enlse.

LEDs are always a good option to keep it cool if the lights are the source of your grief. Mine were and now the tank is just above room temp. I don't use a heater, just a MJ 900 that keeps it a little warmer than ambient. I have a Rapid LED retro and highly recommend it. It was very simple to install.

Do you know of a good led system that would fit my tank if I removed the hood. I don't really like the good that much anyway and would rather have it open instead of installing LEDs into the existing hood housing.

Try propping the lid open 2 inches. That worked on mine.
