there's 1 rock in my tank that is getting covered in this bright green algae, and then there are darker green spots here and there.

the color in this picture is exactly how it is in the tank. i cant pick or brush either off the rock, so i'm thinking coralline? the dark spots are starting to worry me tho...

I could be wrong but I think it is. Just a different kind than the purple/pink

I too think it looks like the florescent green coralline that proceeds pink and purple.

This tank is way to new im sorry. If there was any coraline it would not make it. Coraline very sensitive and your tank is to new im sorry. Give it time.

any idea about the dark ugly spots?

i have a fair bit of red and purple coralline on the other rocks, just not this one..

how long has the rock been in there?

since day 1 :spin2: so that puts the whole tank at like... 4ish months. everything went in at the same time, 4-5 pieces were from an established tank with lots of red and purple and the rest have started taking on the red and purple, but here this one sits neon green lol i think it's pretty but i'm just concerned its the start of some nuisance or something! everything else looks good...

I had it on this one rock that had a different texture. It would turn green. Then after re-scape I flipped it for fitting reasons and the bottoms tip urged green also. I'm about 95 percent it's coralline I would go with 100 but I don't know it all

Coralline algae is a bunch of different colors, for some reason in really low light sometimes I get this hot one color it looks cool too bad it's usually where I can't see it

I have some rocks with coralline that look just like that. Bright and dark green.

why do you say this? When I first set my tank up within 2 months I had purple and red/pink coralline on overflows and glass. All you need is proper lighting alk and calcium with low po4 and it will grow regardless of how old the tank is. To the op can you blow it off or do you have to scrape it to remove it? If the latter its probably coralline. I have that color at the bottom of my glass.

trust me i have tried removing it!! lol it doesn't come off for nothin! thats what made me think coralline, its just a new color for me i guess! i'll have to update in a few months with the final answer lol

It probably is coralline from the established tank and is dying but its nothing to worry about just adds some temporary color to your talk ;-) hope it keeps going good!

Yep, just coralline going through the stages of decomp, it'll come back.

It's really hard to tell with this stuff. Sometimes it turns into coralline & sometimes you end up with hair or turf algae, and sometimes it just stays green. That's been my experience.

I've got exact same stuff, started showing up about 3 months after setup and it's everywhere including glass and I can only remove it by scraping it. The stuff on rocks is slowly getting taken over by pink and red coralline though which is more appealing lol. I'm kinda new to this but think it's coralline.. In my case I keep Ca on the high side and I have continued growth even in areas not exposed to light.

Here's a bad photo of green coralline that I have on my glass couldn't get a good focus on it. But I will say I started off with dark and neon green on my rocks and it was hard and crusty so feel it and see but it will normally turn purple or white and if it turns white its dead. http://i1323.photobucket.com/albums/u591/Mat1018/image_zps5fc01c19.jpg (http://s1323.photobucket.com/user/Mat1018/media/image_zps5fc01c19.jpg.html)
