View Full Version : Am I overthinking this?

Hi,
I am going to fill up my new to me 90 gallon reef ready tomorrow. I got my ro water ready to go (currently in brute cans). I was going to mix the salt and fill buckets using a pump that I previously used to drain tap water from the Dt tanks leak test. Can I use that same pump to mix the salt water and fill buckets, or will it be contaminated from draining the tap h2o?
Thanks,
Greg

You're fine. The little bit of tap that might still be inside the pump isn't going to make much of a difference in a 90 gal.

If you want to be extra careful... fill a bucket up 1/2 way with rodi and run the pump in the bucket. Diluting it will help give piece of mind.

There are people that run successful tanks entirely with tap water. I know it is rare but possible. You are definitely over-thinking this. The most common problem with tap water is nutrients and a teaspoon in a pump will add maybe 0.001 percent of what you add by feeding.
