Any link between alk and potassium?

My tank has had steady alk for many months now. That is 8.0 dhk. Was still on the spot yesterday. I did a new test ( did it twice with salifert test kit ) and it has gone up to 8.9 this morning.

Did nothing unusual yesterday except add some potassium. I did a 10% water change with Instant Ocean, but that was not a new bucket and I followed the same procedures. I rolled the bucket and stirred the content before talking some salt from it for my water change.

I am out of options for explaining this sudden alk change.

Unless you added potassium carbonate I'd keep looking. K wouldn't have any effect on alk.

Try tomake the test again..maybe you did something wrong. Test the water that comes out after mixing.. maybe the salt has a wrong level of KH.
