Some people find them accurate, others don't. Personally I'm very happy with my Hanna alk test kit.

I would get a more reputable test kit for your calcium, magnesium, dkh, and phosphate.

I recommend Red seas Foundation test kit for calcium, magnesium and dkh.

as for Phosphate I would get a hanna checker.

Yes, these are more pricey than API's but theres a reason, the quality is much better. Invest now or lose money in livestock later. I only use API when I wanna test the basic Nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia.

I have salifert kit for magnesium. People say api for calcium is ok but i have no idea just going by others. Saving up for a salifert kh kit. So api is only good for nitrate?

I have Salifert for alk and a Hanna checker for alk. I will say both are very close in results so either one is good.

API has one of the worst nitrate kits ever. the colors are so close you are choosing between light red medium red and dark red at the bottom, its ridiculous.
Fourtunatley if you have more in the 0-5 range that is pretty easy to read.

You will get a more precice number with salifert, hanna, and redsea but for a quick test api is a good kit. It always reads very close to my salifert and redsea kits
