Hey everyone,

The summers here keep getting hotter and for some piece of mind, I'm in the market for a chiller. I have a 40 breeder with a 20 gal sump in my bedroom, so I'd like it to be on the quieter side. I'm thinking about the Aqua Euro USA Max Chill 1/10 HP Aquarium Chiller. I'm a grad student, so my budget is a little on the small side, but I'll manage...Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion hobbzz. How quiet was it? The chiller will likely go ~1ft from my bed....

IIrc almost silent. I could only barely hear it kick on. I also had it in my bedroom about 6 feet away from my bed.

You have to know that the heat from the tank is now in your room? It could get pretty warm in there. Will you have a problem sleeping?

Maybe get a small energy efficient window air conditioner and your tank and your room and you will stay cool.

Nice. Good to know, Thanks!

Valid point ken. I hadn't really given that much thought. My room is on the second floor, so it is already a bit of a challenge to keep it cool. So, looks like a chiller may be the last thing I want haha. Right now, I have a fan controlled through my apex to come on at 79 and the heaters click on at 78.2, so the tank stays between 78-79, which is great. But, I'm thinking a small portable or window A/C unit isn't a bad idea. Thanks

If the fan is working there's no need to waste $300+ on a chiller.

Yeah I agree. I was weighing my options, as my graduate research position is taking me all over the world for months at a time for data collection (someone has to do it)...So, I keep asking myself, is it more likely for the ghetto-rigged fan

or a new chiller to fail while I'm gone?

However, now that ken brought up that point, it seems ridiculous to get one. Not sure why I didn't take that into account. So, I'll just get a back up fan...
