View Full Version : How many WP40?

So, this seems to be the hottest topic out there right now. But... erm, I just bought 2 Jebao WP40s... I don't know if 2 is going to be a complete overkill, or not? I don't have an aquarium keeper, so they'll be running purely off of the controller.

I have a 135g (60x20x24) SPS dominant reef (well, it will be...)

Thoughts? Opinions?

Not at all. I think 2 wp40's will be perfect for your tank. It really depends how your rock work and where you place your pumps. Just play around with it. I have almost the exact dimensions as you except the width and height are flipped. My tank is 60x24x20.

One thing I would like to note is that my tank is eurobraced so it is more forgiving when I'm in w1 mode. It prevents any water from splashing outside of the tank. Here's a video of the tank running two of those pumps:

I purchased 2 for my 120 although I plan to use them with an Apex or other controller 6 hrs from one end then 6 hrs from the other end. I have a conventionally framed glass tank and can use one in W1 all day long w/o overflow. Have not tried both on at same time. I dial in the wave with about 50% of the dial. The dial controls duration of the pulse making a longer or shorter wave. I must confess with the dial turned all the way to the right, longest duration, the wave gets kinda big. I have about twice as much rock as toofrigginswt.

2 is good with your tank IMO.

Depends on your scape

+1

toofrigginswt has a tank with very little in it (not saying that is bad, just saying compared to my tank there's very little rock or coral in there). In my 180g one WP40 is too strong at one end and not strong enough at the other. I have it dialed down to 18 volts and it's OK. But I'm waiting for the WP25 so I can put one at each end and probably run them at full flow.

I have 2 WP-40's on my 180G mixed reef, and they are to much at 24 volts. I have a lot of LPS's that get blown about, so I am now running them at 17 volts. If have nothing but "Hard Corals" in there, then you'll be fine.

How is it that you dial the voltage down?

I'm using a adjustable stepdown power supply off of my main power supply for my DIY LED lights. Just search eBay for.. LM2596 Power Step-down Module. Or if you don't have a low voltage power supply, you can use an adjustable laptop power supply. They are available on eBay, Amazon and countless other places.
