Bottom of the tank / Righ side only/ 170G Bow / 2-1500 Koraline Evolutions 3/4 of the way down.

Appeared 2 weeks ago after my Pink Spotted sand sifting Goby jumped out the tank and died.

Seems to grows where water flow is not that fast, but its a nice current. The power head on the left side has no traces of this stuff.

First coating was a crust. Then the slime/hair/stringy stuff appeared.

Its like a transparent coating but purple

The darker patches actually move with the current. It looks like waves

And its only on the sand

Coralline algae is hard, that's cyano.

Underneath where it formed is a hard crust, this is now growing on top of it

its cyano, you need to vaccum it out and find out whats causing it.

Definitely cyano. Are you using RODI water? What's your routine maintenance? Running any GFO?

the crust you are seeing is just the sand stuck together, you can bust it up with a stick or something and it will loosen the sand right back up.

the hard corline algae is like rock, it starts as small circles and slowly grows outward, its very colorful, and its tough to scrape off glass.

Yes.. Thanks.. I am aware of Coraline Growth, my rocks are full of it but from my understanding Coraline that grows on the sand is hard. Thats how mine was, then the other furry stuff started growing on it... So i was wondering is it CORA or CYANO.. From the feed back, im getting its CYANO. I though CYANO was red. This stuff is the same color as my Coraline Algae.. A pretty purple...

RODI yes.. 5 Stage..

Every week 10% water change..

No GFO...

Now this issue wasnt around when I had my GOBY. He leaped out the tank 2 weeks ago. And from that time till now, u see howfast its growing.. But it starts off as a purple crust..

Cyano can be several different colors, purple/deep red is most common.

Where does it come from? Was my Goby just eating it the whole time? Time when he left the tank, the bottom started crusting. Within 2 weeks!!

Your goby didn't eat it. It most likely churned the sand and ate the leftover food that fell to the bottom on your sand. That is why there is a buildup and the cyano is on it now. It is awful stuff. I hate it.

Makes sense... But why none on the rocks?

If you let it go, it'll eventually move to the rocks too.
