Thinking of picking up one of these for my smaller tank but have a couple of questions, does this Osmo shut off automatically when the top off water container is empty or does the pump continue to run? If I have the float switch in my sump and given that 1" in my sump is approx 1/2 gal, unless there is a leak in the tank, the unit should never go to default shut down after running it's 2 mins, if the approx amount the controller pumps in this timeframe is 3/4 gal, correct? Thanks.

The controller has no knowledge of the water level in the container, it only shuts off when its timer counts down or the float is raised. The timer is user settable at 1.5 or 3 minutes by changing the position of a jumper. The pump is not harmed by running dry briefly. In 1.5 minutes it can pump a bit less than 1/2 gallon, in 3 it can pump almost 1 gallon. For the most part you use 1.5 for volumes below 25 gallons and 3 for 25-52 gallons.

ah Roger OK, I get it, so even if vessel is out of top off water, the pump will run for the 1.5 mins(or 3) then shut off. I assume it will then need to be reset to work again.

Correct, you would then unplug it and plug it back in to reset.
