That looks awesome, i know a local builder that built a sump with acrylic and HDPE, but it leaked where the acyrlic and hdpe connected (windows) this seems to be a better solution, thanks for posting, i know what i am building my next sump with now.

Thanks, I did do plenty of research on rigid PVC, acrylic and what type of solvent(s) works best on both materials.

How much did parts costs you?

Interested in using rigid PVC to build a fuge. With your research and in your experience with strength do you think 1/2" is overkill? Maybe 3/8"? Could you go thinner? Have you ever joined PVC and acrylic? Looking at incorporating acrylic in the front. Weldon sells a solvent that bonds the two.

Most, if not all, rigid pvc pressure vessels I have seen, or heard of--have been heat welded, not solvent welded. Not sure I would trust solvent welds. Best of luck.

Then the same would apply for solvent welded acrylic.

Adhesives such as methacrylates can produce bonds which are quite strong, exhibiting lap shear strength values greater than 3,000psi.
In many applications, the bond strength is greater than the strength of the substrates. As was proven when i tested it, the material gave before the bond did .

One 4x8x½” sheet and both solvent cements for my location was $164.00 I was able to build sump and ATO. I’m sure in the mainland you can find cheaper?

I used an acrylic calculator for water volume. For the sump H x L and no bracing, required 0.465 however the sump in operation, will only be half full baffles glued in place do add bracing IMHO better off at 0.500 with the sump full I have no deflection on the sides visible with a straight edge.

On my ATO link you’ll see I did solvent weld PVC and acrylic

What solvent did you use to get the pvc to bond? weldon#? Could I use #3?? or is there a specific one I need to use?

Do not use Weld-On #3 or #4 for polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

I did post a link on this thread with the info your inquiring about. Read post 3&4 on the link below.

that looks great! It seems sintra is becoming more and more popular for these kinds of builds.

What toot or blade did you use to cut the sintra?

Mahalo! Perhaps we see more in the future.

For my table saw 10”x 60 tooth more the better finish. The trick is not to leave saw marks in your cuts for glue-up, the materials can be fabricated with standard router and drill bits.

When's the last time you cost out a 4x8x½” sheet of acrylic vs rigid pvc.

What brand of blade.

Diablo carbide but really any quality brand carbide will work 60 tooth or higher, more teeth more cost..

Good deal, looks like the stock colors are grey, black and white. Wish I could have had grey to match the plumbing, only white, black and limited thickness available. Lucky I found that on this little rock.
