I just recently completed setting up my first acrylic tank - and purchased the Mag Float (for acrylic tanks obviously) to clean the inside walls. Brand new out of the package and absolutely no sand on the cleaning pad - I have small scratches/swirl marks which has pretty much made me sick to my stomach. Can't really see unless looking close and right up to the glass but it's scratched nonetheless. Is this to be expected? Did I get a faulty cleaner? Any suggestions for future cleaning to avoid this?

Put a pad in between the magnets and only go side to side never swirl , this is why I hate and will never own a acrylic tank

Is this to be expected?

With acrylic, yes. Good luck with it long term. Acrylic scratches when looking at it.

Welcome to the life of an acrylic tank.
When I had an acrylic tank, I always put a cleaning pad between the wetside and the acrylic

I always used a tigershark or a mighty magnet on my acrylic. I would put a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser on the inside portion of mine. Scratches are tough to prevent in acrylic.

For deep cleaning, I always hand cleaned the panes

I can see that already - thanks for the tip.

Solitude127 - when you say "hand clean" what are you using for a pad? I liked the idea of the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser that cakemanPA mentioned.

Thanks to all for the tips by the way.

just make sure it is the original... not one with additives... I slice them in half width pieces. They work amazingly well

Thanks - I was just thinking about that actually and wondered if there was any chemicals in them.
