I was checking out the march tank of the month, and the first thing that caught my eye was the trigger fish. Are these guys reef safe. Please don't feed me the lines "no fish is truly reef safe blah blah..." I get it. Would a tank like this be devoid of crabs, snails, and/or shrimp. I just wonder because I know those kind of inverts are nice snacks for triggers. Are there other "safe" triggers? Anyhow, just curious.

Xanthichthys sp. triggers are the most mild-mannered of the group, and they are relatively reef-compatible. Of course, you could get an individual that is the exception. Just make sure your tank is big enough to hold them, as they get pretty large. Consensus for most species of triggers is 180G minimum.

Well I'm planning a 300gal and the trigger caught my eye. Mostly a tang type tank so I don't even know if a trigger will make the cut. Beautiful fish though.
