View Full Version : Are Six Line Wrasse prone to jump?

I have a rimless tank without a cover. The coverless look is important to me so I've been building my stock list around fish that are not likely jumpers. I realize any fish might jump at some point but I also know there are those that will almost always jump and those are the ones I'm trying to avoid. I know wrasses (is that correct for plural wrasse?) in general are jumpers, but was hoping maybe the six line was known to be less of one. At this point I have a pair of Ocellaris and a Starry Blenny (it's a 50g cube). I don't imagine either will be much of a bully and incite jumping.

ALL wrasses are jumpers and REQUIRE a covered tank.

I have had a six line in my tall 150 gal with no cover for 8 months now. He doesn't go near the surface

Ive had one and he was a jumper. I found him on a top aquarium brace and he did survive. After that I moved him to a smaller tank with a cover. I felt it was better to be safe.

Had one in my tank for about 5 months before he jumped.
I had ordered screen from BRS that came in the afternoon after he jumped. Oh the irony!

Like snails and such? Maybe I need to reconsider wanting one because I sure like my CUC.

Six lines are well behaved until about 1 year old, at least in my experience. They turn extremely aggressive towards just about anything. I had to take most of the rocks out of my 40 to catch him for a return to the LFS where he now hunts for critters in big display tank.

Snails of all kinds nassarius (sp?) ceriths, red legged hermits. And catching him is impossible cause of course he's the smartest fish in the tank. Wont go near a trap and too fast to catch. I think with these guy's its a 50/50 shot how theyll behave. I had one in a 150 a few years back and he was the perfect citizen. Didnt bother a thing including cuc and all other tankmates.

So basically it sounds like if I get a well behaved one he'll jump in short time. If I get a non-jumper he'll be a holy terror. I guess I'll pass on the six line.
