Hey guys and gals I am trying to figure out a better way to remove the aiptasia from big rocks to feed my berghia. The aips will walk toward the light and someone mentioned to me to put sand or rubble over the rocks and they'd climb up which also sounds like a good idea, but I'd like to try something else out.

I am thinking something like bird netting, and some how fixing it around the live rock I have with a boat load of aips. Something more trick than just wrapping the entire rocks with it hehe

Any ideas? I was thinking magnets, glueing or using putty on the rock for one end and fixing it to the clear net.

How about throw a bunch of small rubble rock into the tank and just barely cover the large rocks? The aptaisia shoul move to the smaller piece which will be easier to feed individually.

That's what I was going to do but since pods and whatever will eat berghia eggs and babies its best to add the aips without any rock... although I got desperate so I busted up a larger rock so I did add some rubble with them so I dunno.

Someone recommended either hair nets or laundry bag from the dollar store. I think hair nets may work.

How about a bunch of frag discs? They should be smooth enough where they won't be able to harbor any pods

I've been away from the hobby for a LONG time, but I still have a tank. Anyways, I gotta ask.. since when did aiptasias actually move into the light? I have never heard of this and definitely never seen them do that. I have hundreds of them and they thrive everywhere - including places where there is barely any light. The solution is to breed berghias. I was able to get a couple and they cleaned up my tank in a week's time.

I agree with Kelly. I think frag plugs are the way to go. Especially if you can get glass ones. or just pieces of glass or tile would be best. you can even fresh water dip the frags with the aptasia on it to make sure there are no pods on there

Have you tried just clipping the aiptasia from the rocks with tweezers or tiny scissors? I know a breeder who does it this way and it works great since the original anemone regenerates on the same spot...

I put in some egg crate with frag plugs like suggested above. Thank you as I had that on hand. I may try the hair net as well just to see what works best.

I'm also gonna fix a light to the side of the tank and get them to walk to different spots.

Yes I'm doing that but its not the easiest thing to do, most of the time you snip a chunk off rather than getting the hole disc. But I have been cutting them up and letting them float around this way.

They will. I'll snap some pics of before and after to show you.

That's what I'm doing, trying to breed berghia nudibranchs. Just trying to be prepared once the babies hatch if they ever do hehe

This is after 1 maybe 2 days. There are already several attached to the egg crate and plugs. I just sat the racks on top the aiptasia.

I'm gonna do this for now I've got extra egg crate.

Thanks all for the replies.
