Alright, using search have been reading about combating bubble algae. (Crabs/all manual including popping before water change etc) Up to now never had it in my tank due to watching new addins pretty close. And I still don't.

However I bought 200lbs of liverockm for a 125 I won't have until June 5th or later. (Seemed good deal at the time, reconsidering it now even at $1.50lb) The rock is HEAVILY infested w/ bubble algae. Came from a basically FOWLR which was a big coral reef tank that basically was crashed then neglected for a year.

Some peices are pretty light and I could probably finish via manual removal. Others are very heavily infested with all sizes. Some so big and firm I don't think I can pop without a tool.

One redeeming benefit is a lot of big sponges of different types.

Currently rock is being kept in a 30g, a brute tub and some in my sump.

Rather than the added nightmare of keeping the rock alive and good condition in the move. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to sacrifice the awesome sponges and just dry them for a week followed by a scrub down. Keep a few good peices which are relatively "pure" and seed the tank with that and the now dry rock and just cycle old fashioned way. (With what all I was moving, more of a pure transfer was possible, but the apocalpyse level of bubble/majano kinda hinders that.)

EDIT: Also, can I pull sponges off w/ out killing them and throw them under rocks/in sump and survive?
Another dealbreaker is a ton of whitish/pink Majano's all over. I'd say out of a dozen good sized rocks theres 20+.

The resiliency of algae is extremely high. I would not be surprised if some bubble algae spores survive.

Probably best to "cook" the rock for a while. You could start the worst pieces now, and save some of the best ones for seeding once you get the new tank up.
