Decades ago I had a 55gal reef in which I could NOT keep xenia. While others were pruning away, mine melted away. I recently picked up some various frags from a local reefer. That xenia was pulsing like crazy in her tank, even in the bucket of brown water on the way home. After acclimation, nothing, Now, a week later, it looks to be melting away, gah!!

Same here on several occasions. I never thought having a clean tank was a bad thing.

I would have to agree. My Xenia's like it better, when I miss a W/C. On a different note - I have more that I can sell now ;)

Xenia does prefer a nutrient rich tank.

Xenia does like it dirty and they will take over the tank! Just tore my tank down and restarted partly because of Xenia

Be glad it doesn't grow, putting Xenia in your tank is like planting Dandelions in your lawn. It is very invasive when conditions are right.

Not only do Xenia like it dirty, but they remove nutrients from the water as the grow. When I have 0 nitrates, my Xenia don't grow at all.

Some people use them in place of macroalgae in a refugium and trim them back to remove nutrients (I don't recommend this).
