View Full Version : Kalkwasser and max PH?

I started using Kalkwasser in my ATO yesterday (1tsp per gal). After watching my PH (via Apex prob) after several ATO cycles, I felt good that I wasn't going to see any spikes. PH was 8.31 when I started and I saw it move between 8.31 and 8.33 through several hours. In the night, I received two email alerts from the APEX where PH hit 8.36, although the graph doesn't show it above 8.33 (I assume a difference between point in time events vs. hourly graphing). It's 8.30 this morning.

Anyway sorry for the long background but my question is how high is too high for PH? At what PH should I set my APEX to turn off the ATO?

Thanks for the advice!

Those kind of swings will have no effect at all. Not uncommon for a 0.2 or greater swing nightly on pH. I have my Apex alert at 8.5 which may be a little on the high side but never have reached it. Another thing to consider is the location of your pH probe to your ATO outlet. Not uncommon for seeing some locally high pH in the sump that is diluted out by the time it hits the tank.

8.5pH is when I'd start to think about precipitation. I'd probably rig it to stop dosing at 8.4.
