I don't have a clam, but I am looking at getting one. So, show off your clams to help confuse me more! Thanks.

You need strong light and a well established tank.

My Deresas. These are the supposedly easy to keep clams. I've had mine about a year. Sorry for the odd angle, they are in a difficult place to photograph.

Great looking clams everyone! I can't wait to get one. I know that clams need strong lighting and an established tank. I have a Kessil 350w and the tank has been running for about 13 months. I will be moving in a couple of weeks and will begin my search for a clam. My question is, is my light strong enough and is a one year old tank established enough?

Will LED's be strong enough for keeping clam's?

I use LED's....on my 90gal, I have 2-110watt led units and 4-55watt T-5's. My maxima and crocea thrive..even at the bottom. My incredible maxima came from pacificeastaquaculture. Check out their website. Their clams are insane!!!

You should see them inpserson. As in ALL of their clams in person. Not just what you got at home.

VERY NICE!!

Here's a T. Squamosa in a 150 gallon tank. Lighting is 95 watts DIY LED and BuildMyLED.com's 3' 60 watt Super actinic. Filtration is an empty sump, no skimmer. Par readings are 130 left side, 110 back, 110 right side and 80 on the front end closest to the shelf. Was about 5" long when purchased 7 years ago and was 11.75" last Christmas.

They had a bunch at the Connecticut club frag farmer. It was crazy....so hard to choose. Only $80 each....and they were all amazing. Wish I could see them all. They were selling like hotcakes!!!

You have a 16.75 gallon tank. A derasa of squamosa would outgrow that tank pretty quickly. I suggest looking into Maxima and Crocea clams.
