Sometimes I hate ALL these forums! There're my two main clubs, LIRA and NYRC... then, my main interests, Syngnathids, and marine breeding = another bazillion forums! LOL

At any rate, my LIRA brothers and sisters, please see:

^^ I would've like to have seen an article detailing the results. Did any of the larvae survive?

Thanks for this link, Mike. So, those were the first ones born in captivity, at the Steinhart Aquarium.

Know where the second ones were born? IN HICKSVILLE!!!! Last night. At my house. LOL (Yeah, I know, that article was from two years ago and the chances that I'm second in line are slim... but still fun to think.

First, here's Mama. The eggs are held between her large ventral fins -- I watched her open them like doors are one baby pop out!

And two babies -- one seems to be more developed than the other.

Only two. If I was expecting this I would have been more prepared and probably could have saved more. Now the challenge is to keep them alive. I have rotifers and small copepods.

Update... babies lived only two days. They appeared to be snapping at the rotifers, so I think they were eating, but it really was hard to tell.

Even though I lost 3 out of the 4 adults, and then both babies, it was very exciting even having these fish in my tanks and I look forward to getting more if possible and trying again. Mama is still doing ok.

Hows mama?

Kurt, I saw your post last night but was too tired to respond. She was just fine then. Today I've been unable to find her. She's in a 210 with lots of rock and caulerpa so I'm hoping she might be hunting in the vegetation. The alternative is that she died and was dispatched by the clean up crew.

But, like I said earlier, it was a great experience even having these fish here for a short while.
