View Full Version : Lettuce Nudi vs Fuzzy Chiton

So I have a bit of GHA outbreak, which I really dont mind at all. I kinda like it to be honest, however, I got a sailfin blenny in hopes of keeping it in check and he prefers film algea and frozen and prepared foods. So it has now started to spread from the original rock to other stuff in my tank. I have no corals and dont plan on getting any except maybe a few mushrooms or other type of softie. I have a toby puffer and I am concerned he may try to eat a lettuce slug, I am also concerned that one little slug will eat all of the GHA leaving nothing for my pods to eat and then starve himself. I think they are beautiful and I would love to have one but I would appreciate some "been there done that" feed back before purchasing. Also, if I can sustain a lettuce slug would I also be able to have a fuzzy chiton? Or would they compete with one another and both die. Any info is always appreciated!

Oh yeah! Tank stats
56 gal FOWLR/man made decor 40lbs sand
Ocellaris clown
Toby Puffer
Coral Beauty
Firefish
Sailfin blenny
Green Mandarin (I will be adding him today if I see him eat at the LFS)
Small CUC of about 50 assorted small snails, nerites and ceriths and such and one hermit crab.

The mandy is the last fish I plan to add for quite some time, like a year at least. But also why I dont want to completely dessimate the GHA since it is covered in pods.

Thanks!

I never had much long-term success with lettuce nudis, they slowly disappeared over months in my tank without making much of a dent in my algae...

As for chitons: I only ever got one small one on live rock and don't usually see it. So I can't really comment on them.

For a real problem sea hares are great and fast, but you will need to feed them or give them to someone else with lots of algae after they did their job.

You could also toss in a couple of large Mexican turbo snails as well. They really mow down the hair algae. If you aren't doing so now, start running some GFO.

Thank you! Im nervous about turbos as my puffer ate my last two. Last time I tested phos was undetectable and nitrates were about 10. I will def look into the GFO though.

lettuce nudis ates only bryopsis. For GHA a couple urchins work best for me
