Looks like a nice setup, but I'm not a fan of the background. It seems to distract from the beauty of the tank. But that's just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions? :D

I hate it, my wife made me get it. Honestly its better than looking out the back of the tank at the wall and equipment but i want something else

Get into shadowbox's but i think i will never be satisfied with what i could come up with compared to what i have seen online.

I have been torn between black and blue, and how to go about covering it

Also i just ran into a thread about attaching polyps to the back glass, have to find more out about that

I just bought a black background from the fish store. It just sticks on there and I can still run the magnet on the back to clean the glass and not hurt the cover.

I painted my back black, made a HUGE difference. The lighting looks way better and the coral pops so much more with that black back round.

I have considered silver paint, to try for a reflective finish, anyone try mirror?

A black background creates what is called "negative space". It is a term from photography. Having a featureless background makes the foreground "pop". I would think you would want your corals, fish and crustacians to standout. But hey, it is your tank. If you like that background, go with it.

Or, if you leave the back alone it will be completely covered in coralline in a little over a year's time. I painted my back black, but you wouldn't know it now.

They sell a background that is black on one side and blue on the other. I have it.

If there a safe way to paint the back glass while the tank is set up?

I really hate the sheet backgrounds, i bought the expensive glue crap and this one is still peeling off, not something i want to deal with, no matter the color!

Anyone have any experience gluing frags to the back? Star polyps, or zoas im thinking... will they be okay like that?

Yea you paint the outside of the glass not the inside, and any paint will work mine was just interior paint and I painted the back of the back glass.

Didnt want to risk paint in the tank.. went with a black garbage bag for now, going to check out the crafts store tonight.. really like the white look as well, is it benificial with reflecting light as opposed to black?
