Curious what kind of lighting you acan enthusiasts are running! votes and Comments are more then welcomed.

I run a T5's. 8bulb tek light but currently in running 6 bulbs with this light configuration,
ATI actinic
ATI blue plus
Giesman aquapink ( close to purple plus but pulls a few more colors)
Giesman actinic plus (not as bright as blue plus)
Uvl 454
Uvl actinic

Thanks,

Mike Nickerson.

I personally think ur doing to much variety in ur bulbs my opinion is 4 ati blue plus and 2 aquablue or 5 blue plus and one aquablue depending on your color preference ie. 4 blue plus 2 aquablue more towards 14 16 k or 5 blue to 1 aquablue for more 18 20 k color spectrum blue plus put out alot of par and grow well ime

I like it just fine and the acans like it too:thumbsup:
I get a bit of the oranging if I crank it right up but If I keep it at about 75% white the colours look good.

Thanks for you input, the reason behind for the variety is a friend of mine gets some of his scans from cherry corals vender and they had been talking about good light combos for acans and other LPS and said to give that combo a try and that's why I have the variety.

I voted LED because that's what I'm using now, but it always used to be T5 and I only went LED last month.

I like it a lot so far.

400w 20k MH. Been hesitant to try LED because I've heard the it can turn red acans orange. It would be interesting to try my acans under T5 and led.

Anyone notice their red acans turning orange under LEDs? I've heard this can be an iodine or potassium issue also.

A bit, but mainly because I have my lights cranked right up for my clams. If I turn them down the colouration improves.
I havent lost the reds but crimsons become scarlets if you know what I mean:lolspin:

T5s - 8 bulb ATI
3 ATI B+
2 KZ Fiji Purples
1 KZ New Gen
1 KZ Coral Light
1 ATI Actinic

They look great! especially with the actinic and b+ combo (with moon lights too) at night.

My experience has been t5s over leds for overall color, growth and polyp extension.
However, it's hard to top the look of royal blue leds at dawn and dusk.

Oddly enough the SPS look great, as well as the zoas, but the Acans look kinda eh. Probably because I don't have the best acans though.

I go straight LED on everything. I am happy with them and they are growing everything I put under them. My acans colonies are under very low LEDs so they are getting blasted. I would not start them like that. But over the course of several days or a couple weeks, I move them closer and closer until they are nestled in among SPS frags and doing total fine. I have to be careful because from time to time, they puff up enough and sting an SPS frag.

My acans must not like me. I have full spectrum reefbreeders LEDs. 72 watt Cree fixtures he used to have on site. They since are gone since the photon series. But my acans dont puff up at all. They don't seem to be loosing flesh and I see feeders out at night. I have them on sand bed as well

My acans love it under t5. A buddy of mine has the same acans under halides and they turn almost all orange.

I think a lot of this has to do with levels of light rather than lighting type.

My acans are pretty bleached (under Radion LEDs) but in the shade they look great.

Under T5s they were getting blasted and also bleached out. IMO they need lower light levels. Regardless of the type of lighting.
