View Full Version : Working on light stand, two Reefbreeder values, how far from water?

I know there is a lengthy thread about these fixtures, but I wanted to ask here so more would see it.

Ok I have 2x Reefbreeder value fixtures. My tank is 48x24x18 tall. What is the optimum height for these lights over this 18" tall tank? I'll end up with some sps for sure, but starting with an acan and zoa garden type deal.

Should I have them adjust from 3" off the water to say 8"?

It does not matter, place at any height.

I consider 2 criteria. One is to try and keep all the light, or as much as I can, in the tank and not on the floor or walls as it is just wasted light. And second, how convenient is it to get in and out of the tank with the lights where they are? PAR numbers shouldn't be an issue as you can control that with the dimmers. I don't know anybody who runs these at 100% on a 24" deep tank, let alone your 18" version.

Ditto...set it at the height that has maximum coverage with minimum spillage into the room. Here's my 24 over a 38 gal...3 pics. coverage is 100% with no leak w the 90deg lens on the second and third pics
