I recently bought a pencil urchin for my 55 gallon. I already had a pincushion in there. The pincushion is very active moving around my tank constantly. The pencil is very solitary and hides a lot. I heard this is normal for pencils on live aquaria but I also saw that they are not reef safe. I have corals in my tank and I have a spider decorator that is covered in sponges. Will this be okay in my tank? Are there any success stories with keeping pencils with corals and sponges? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on the exact species and if they find enough food.

My pencil is reef safe. He does hide a lot. They are also very strong and like to knock stuff over.

I have mine with lps sps and softies. It eats algae, so if you have macroalgae, it will eat that. Most of the time they will just graze your rock and tank walls.

I probably shouldn't worry because I bought coral along with this, but I was worried because I bought $200+ of coral with this... Lol
