Chiller I bought "new" from some uh, ah, someone on ebay 18 months ago has oil all over the inside, and my tank is at 87*
I put in all the window units today, and my house is cooling down nicely, but from a peak of 88* my tank's only down 1* so far. I know I need a chiller. 3/4 to 1 horse power would be ideal, but I can't afford to be real picky right now.
Who's got what for sale?
If you feel like a road trip check the surrounding states forums. There are a few out there

THANKS! I'll take a look, but my system is 500 gallons, I don't think a 1/4 HP will cut it.

Honestly Vinny, I'm hoping to get a 3/4 HP unit, but the more I think about it, the harder it is to spend the $$ on another used one. I'm seriously considering this:

It's only 1/3 HP, but is so efficient that it should work just fine for me @ about 500 gallons.
I don't know for sure yet, but that new chiller with a 2 year warranty looks good to me. $1075.00 (+tax??) doesn't look quite so good.
I wish I could link the one I bought on Ebay 1.5 years ago. That cost me about a grand, what a debachle that was. If you want to see the chiller, search ebay for perfecttemp. Here's a thread I started in the "manufacturer's" back yard...

Well, the hunt is over, and I do not expect to be looking for another chiller. This arrived on Friday....

I had to do concrete work during the week to make it fit, but plumbing was complete Friday night. I'm now secure in the knowledge that my tank will never be too hot again.
I think I'm going to order the optional 400 watt heater, too.
Time to dig out the ACs and hope they work. Wasn't ready for today, got home and tank was at 86

Tomorrow is going to be hot, too. I'll tell you where the shop is that has Frankenchiller, if you like.
Lol I'm almost afraid to ask what the frankenchiller is

Frankenchiller (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2133302&highlight=perfecttemp)
Ouch. Nah think ill pass. Going to use this as an excuse to push central air

LOL, wise man. Good luck with the central air thing ;)
Thanks. Yeah I stand a good shot at it. The breaker will probably not hold with the tank running. So no ac in the bedroom. That's not going to work for her

I bet you could add a dedicated circuit cheaper than adding central air
Seriously, there's "ductless central A/C" out there. Small units mount on the wall inside and all the refrigerant plumbing and compressor are on the outside. Not bad looking if they pay attention to detail on installation.
Lol I'm sure I could. I'm an electrician. Central air was on the list to do anyway. The split systems are nice. Need to talk to the guy to see if that will work. Would rather only see one condenser outside then a few around the house

When I looked into it a few years ago, you could use one outdoor unit to run up to three (I think) inside units.
I do 4 zone ones in some situations. But it's usually 2 on 1st floor, 2 on second right above. I would need 2 at one end of house and 1 at the other. Maybe one in middle. But the ends are def needed.
