Hi guys about 2 weeks ago I picked up a Frag of Montipora and a Candy Cane.

I mounted the candy cane and Montipora on the same rock. The candy cane did fair well in the trip or from fraging. and i notice one of the heads not looking good. That was 4 days ago. I came down the next morning and notice the montipora turned a really light pink one spot still had good amount of color. When I came home from work the candy cane looked worse. I thought the monti could possibly be reacting to it dying so I moved it. The color on the monti looks a little better this morning see the picture below. Everything else in the tank looks good. water prams were good when I tested 4 days ago. I originally had the rock closer to the light could that of caused it to turn pink?

lights are 6 x 54w t5 HO. Nothing in the tank shows any signs of not being happy. This is my first montipora.

The lights had just come on in this picture.

sorry, i dont see either of the corals your talking about in this picture.

I see what looks like green star polyps, some zoanthids, a hammer coral. can you get a better shot of what your asking about?

Did I ID the coral wrong?

oh! thats better.

That does look like a montipora capricornis.

its bleached, which corals will do when they are stressed or dying.

there is still some color left on it. i would place it in an area of good flow and decent lighting (not too strong light, that might have caused the bleaching) and see if it will recover on its own.

the monti is on its way out.

what are the parameters you test for ? what are the values for KH and CA++ ? how stable?

GSP and monti shouldnt be so close .. the GSP and other corals around would sting it.

strange growth pattern for cap... are you sure it's not upside down?
