I'm in the processes of purchasing a skimmer for my 180 gallon tank. I found a Vertex Alpha 200 and Deltec TC1655 that are being sold used locally. Which do you think will be a good fit for my tank?

My tank will be a Fish only aquarium with a medium-large bioload.

Thank you,
Mo

Also, found a ATI bubble master 200. Please let me know.

I think ANY of the three should handle your 180gal, depending on other husbandry factors, of course. SO i would just get either the least expensive or the one that fits your sump better, is easier to clean and has the more reliable pump. I would probably go with the Alpha if it was reasonably priced.

The alpha out of all those. Red Dragon pumps are pretty nice.

I say the Alpha just in case you need some manufacturers support. I don't think there is US support for Deltec anymore

I run an Alpha 300 on my system. Well over 2 years of flawless consistent skimming. I have an SCH on mine and only clean the collection cup and pumps every 6 or so months. Other than draining the collection cup every week or so, I don't touch it and it skims like clock work. It's been by far the most maintenance free and consistent skimmer I have ever owned and I've owned a lot of skimmers in the last 25 or so years.

I'd definately say vertex too. The deltec to compare would be the 2060 tc and that would be a tougher call where I might go for the D, but out of those two I feel it's a no brainer to pick the vertex.

I agree whole heartily, even when Deltec had someone who was suppose to give customer service it was terrible!
