I drip it right before the water goes into the Skimmer. I use to drip it right afterwards. I don't see much of a difference. Just make sure it is in a high flow area.

ATO to Kalk reactor to remote refugium overflow to sump return section. It is very well mixed by the time it makes it to the return pump, and the return flow goes out through 4 nozzles.

ANd no, your skimmer won't remove it. But stony corals will. So will clams. If you have either of those 2 creatures, your water changes alone won't keep up with the demand for calcium.

You don't have to 'drip' it if you have an ATO. Just put it in your reservoir.

I do the same. I used to think maybe my skimmer was pulling some out. So, I dripped for several nights with the skimmer on and did the same with the skimmer off. Used the exact same amount of kalk and tested my calcium every morning at the exact same time. My calcium levels rose 5 ppm per day regardless of whether the skimmer was on or off.

My ATO puts the kalk from a kalk reactor in the same chamber as the return pump, so this is after the water goes through the skimmer.

Whether this actually makes any difference is debateable, but in theory you don't want the kalk going directly into the skimmer, because saturated lime water will react with CO2 in the air to form insoluble calcium carbonate. That's what the thin film of material on the surface of a container of saturated kalk solution that's exposed to the air is - calcium carbonate.

The problem w putting it in the return section is the lack of any water movement. The water almost seems stagnant in the return area. Good that I have no microbubbles going into the DT but not a good place to place the return for kalk if it needs water movement.
