Hey everyone...

I had my LFS order me a Quoyi Parrotfish. It arrived today, and I stopped in to check it out before picking it up, and putting it in QT...

My LFS calls me and says the fish wasn't shipped too well, and was starved for oxygen when it arrived. I immediately went to the store to observe it, and ask them to put it in a separate bucket from the other fish with an air stone in it until I could pick it up after work...

Anyway: Here are a couple of pictures of it. Is it just me, or is this fish faded in color? Possibly trying to hide in the empty bucket? He's just laying at the bottom motionless. When the bucket is moved, the fish gets up, and swims around for about 30 seconds before laying back on it's side...

What do you all think?

Thanks all!!!

LOL... I was questioning whether or not it was a parrot myself. Can't tell from the pictures, but it has failry light markings that resemble what I've seen in the other threads. In fact, I just finished re-reading the thread posted above.

I hope the distributor got it right, but, I verified the paperwork at the LFS.

I'm a little worried whether or not I should even take it home. It was really lethargic...

Looks like some sort of wrasse, which do play dead.

Halichores for sure... Not a parrotfish

May be an Elegant Wrasse (Coris venustus)? The stressed coloration makes it a little hard to tell.

Well, I made a deal with the LFS and took it home. If it turns out to be something other than a quoyi parrotfish, its free!!!

With the naked eye and a flashlight, I can see multicoloured scales. I guess we'll find out when it becomes less shy and reveals itself.

Its in QT now and hiding. Couldn't get good pictures, but here goes...

Thoughts?

If so, its a new species. Free wrasse.

Kind of bummed. Really wanted a quoyi.

I'll be dog-goned. That's exactly it!!!

I'm researching now to see how reef and invert safe it is...

Free or not, I don't think I'll be keeping this fish...

Looks like it gets pretty large for a wrasse, may eat my shrimp, and is very con-specific which will keep me from having multiple wrasses (<--Spelling ?)...

Another plug for having a QT. Taking unwanted fish back to the store without having to tear down your DT...

Thanks so much for all of your help!!!

It's been returned to the LFS. Traded in for a PBT that is in QT now. The search continues for a quoyi...

Thanks all!!!

Let's try this again... He's in QT now. I'll get better pictues tomorrow once we both settle down...

To prevent too many duplicate posts, I'll provide all updates in the other quoyi parrotfish thread. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2293760&page=12

Nope :) . The turquoise pattern around the snout is all wrong.

It may be a princess instead??? Either way, it's allot closer to that darn yellow wrass from the first attempt. LOL...

Thanks SD, trying to look at pics on my iPhone with a broken screen doesn't help things much:debi:
