I just received my new 60X30X22 Lee Mar and I keep getting different numbers on how many gallons it will hold. It has a eternal overflow so does anyone know what the true size would be.

Thanks

171.4 gallons.
(60X30X22)÷231=171.4

About 170 gallons?

Technically you need to use the inside dimesnsions of the glass to know how much water a tank will hold. So, for example, if your tank is 1/2 inch glass, then your internal dimesnions are: 59 x 29 x 21.5. That's 159 gallons.

But, that also assumes that you fill the tank so the water level is even with the very top of the glass, and you don't have any euro-bracing or other type of bracing on the top, whose volume you would need to subtract. When you say that your tank is 22 inches tall, that usually means to the top of the glass.

So if you're asking how much water your tank can hold, the answer is 159 gallons. If you're describing how big your tank is, as far as I can tell most people just use the outside dimensions (which is technically accurate if you think about it. Your tank includes the volume taken up by the glass), so you could say that you have a 171g tank.

For all of this, I've ignored the fact that you have an external overflow. Technically, you could add that volume to your 171g to give you the "true" volume of your tank (not how much water your tank holds).
