My 27 gallon marineland cube has been going strong for about 4 months now so I thought I'd share a few pics

I have a 27 cube myself but it doesn't even look remotely that good! Nice tank

How to did you attach the rock to the glass?

Thanks larcomak11 :)

Esage, the rocks are Aquamags there is an embedded magnet inside the rock and then the other is on the outside of the glass.

I love them because they allow you that extra dimension to aquascape in small tanks.

And because I know someone will ask here's my equipment list.

I run no chemical filtration at all. The only filtration used is an Aqua C remora skimmer.

I change 5 gallons once every 2 weeks.

Lighting is 2 Rapid PAR 38's and 1 Kessil A150w. I also use the cheepo marineland LED light that came free with the tank but it doesn't do an awful lot compared to the Rapid's and Kessil.

Bare bottom actually looks really good. I usually dont like it much. The whole tank is great looking. Im planning on getting a couple aquamags myself. Exciting stuff!

Is that big wheel-looking coral a fungia?

Thanks :)

BB is so easy to keep spotless. I never have any nutrient issues - almost the opposite lol.

I'm not sure which wheel looking thing you're looking at but I have a feeling it's the green maxi mini anemone that's behind the frogspawn (it's about 7 inches across)

Thanks for the link. The tank looks great.

You'll love the mags. I got one small and one large one but I found the large one was too large so I cut it in half quite easily and still had mags on both sides.

You'll love them :)

Yes, it must be the anemone. Beautiful!
Any fish in this tank?

Great, nano. I think I'm going to look into aquamags. Sounds like a neat idea.

Nice looking cube!

Any particular reason you went without a sandbed?

Thanks Stepho,

there's one fish a small white stripe maroon. I have about a dozen Maxi mini nems so I have to be very careful what fish go in there :)

Nice looking cube!

Thanks and yes there is a reason...

because of the ability to keep the tank virtually spotless. Even though I have no SPS and quite low flow too, I've found that my softies and LPS appreciate the clean water.

Once a week I blast the rocks and bottom and suck out any particulate matter into a 5 gallon bucket through a filter sock. I then put the same water, minus the detritus, back into the tank. Every second week I do a complete 5 gallon water change.

I'm also looking forward to covering the bottom of the tank with corals :)

I've found that with BB tanks I just don't have to deal with high nutrient issues like algae outbreaks etc.

I'm not knocking them - each to his/her own - just saying BB works for me.

I use a great skimmer too to remove "color" from the water column.

New addition to the Candy rock.

Hasn't opened much yet as I literally just added it but there's a new pink/green Cc in the top left corner :)

Interesting.. I did do research and your viewpoints were just as same that I read.

Algae is a pain in the *** unfortunately. But your tank is looking great though. I have seen tanks that have a "fake" sand-bed. Still BB tank but with the look of a sand. Looks nice as well.

I've seen the false sand beds - best of both worlds if you want the look of sand. If you look at the very first picture I posted you'll notice there's NO algae of any kind anywhere. I haven't even cleaned the glass in over 2 weeks. I am experiencing one downside though - my corals aren't growing very fast - although in a nano that too may be a plus lol!

Why would sand affect the growth rate of your coral?

miniwhinny

Why would sand affect the growth rate of your coral?

I'd presume because of the nutrients created by the detritus trapped in the sand? Unless you're keeping the sandbed totally clean there has to be a build up of detritus. I had a small 10 gallon I was "baby sitting" that had sand and when I did the weekly water change I stirred one small corner of the sand. The water I siphoned out was so dirty I couldn't see the bottom of the bucket. When I'm pulling out my bi-weekly 5 gallon water change the water coming out is crystal clear. From everything I understand about LPS and softies they prefer water a little "dirty".

That said, my corals are all bright in color and pretty "plump" lol.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm always willing to learn :)

Its an older Canon Rebel EOS with the standard lens that came with it (sorry not a camera expert so I'm not sure what it would be called) I think it's 28 - 55 mm but not positive :)
