View Full Version : How do I get my skimmer back up and running?

I was just sent a refurbished JBJ 28g Nano tank and moved a few miles away to a new home. I transferred everything from the old tank to the new one and the transfer of everything went very well and everyone is healthy and happy.

However, my skimmer (Aquamaxx HOB-1) keeps overflowing with bubbles no matter what I do and it will not settle down. The setup is identical to what it was before the move so the only thing new is the tank.

I am assuming there could have possibly been some oil or something in the new tank that was causing the issue so I have been skimmerless for a month now waiting to see if the Carbon and Purigen would soak up whatever is causing the issue. I also cleaned the skimmer, pump and tubing with a vinegar bath to remove any possible salt build up or grime.

Everything with the skimmer seems fine with the exception of the bubble production overflowing out the skimmer cup and back into the skimmer.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can try to fix this?

My next step is to setup my 10g with fresh RO/DI Salt mix and hang it on there to see what happens. If it is ok, I will place it back on the DT and run the overflow out into a bucket and just manually refill the DT with fresh RO/DI Salt mix. Does this sound ok?

Thanks :headwallblue:
