I'm looking for some really cheap silica free play sand. Some people have told me to test the quikrete play sand with vinegar. 10+ years ago I could find the one pictures below. Can anyone give advise on this other than to spend big money through a vendor?

I'm not sure you can still find aragonite sand at a hardware store. I know here in AL that you can not. From what i remember reading, it was just the East Coast that had access. This is the cheapest i know of: http://reefrocks.net/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flexible_flypageV1_WIDE.tpl&product_id=5&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

The best I can find is $20 for 40lbs. That's not bad, but compared to $6 for 50lbs I still feel like we're getting ripped off. I'm going to need 5-6 bags, so it adds up.

The company that packaged the stuff you have in that photo is in Lancaster PA near us and as you know stopped aragonite collection a long time ago. I've yet to find any other play sand vendors that sell aragonite in ANY area without the "reef" sand price tag.

I also just recently threw out a salt bucket full of it because I didn't feel like cleaning it and it's sat for years. It hurt tossing out the legend...now it lays to rest under my wood pile. :)

Well yeah, it's an expensive hobby and they know we need it. Kind of like anything for a boat costs twice as much. I think 20'sh for 40lbs is the best you are going to find. My link included shipping. Keep that in mind.

I used that stuff for years without any issues at all. I will be using it again soon.
