I am planning a 40-65 gallon tank for my home office on the 2nd floor. I would love to have the tank pretty close to my desk so I can see it all day while I'm working. How bad is it for electronics to be near? I have a 30" monitor and a very expensive laptop next to it. I wouldn't want to damage them.

Would it be better to go smaller and have something with a lid?

Unless you're spilling water all over the place or develop a nasty leak, I don't see an issue. I have all the modules for my Apex under the cabinet with the sump. The control modules for my Vortech pumps are mounted to the side of the cabinet and the Apex display is mounted to the front. I haven't had any issues and it's been a year.

Alright thanks. I've read some things about condensation near the electronics but I guess I should be okay.
