A few months ago I put my pair of cinnamon clownfish in my sump so they wouldnt kill their severely damaged RBTA. The nem had split and the two freshly split nems were ravaged by peppermint shrimp leaving them VERy small and weak. While the clowns were in the sump the nems healed very nicely. A few weeks ago I added a 7" GBTA with orange tips.

My sump has a ton of chaeto and red gracilaria floating in it making it quite difficult to monitor the clown. I would feed them everyday but other than when they came to the surface for pellets I rarely saw them but for a few seconds. I decided today, the nems were big and healthy enough for my clowns to go home! In order to get them out I removed my huge bage of chemipure elite, all macro, and my bag of gfo. Once caught, i put them into the DT and within 30 seconds they were both hosting the newly aquired GBTA. As I was putting everything back in the sump I noticed something on the side of the chemipur bag.......http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u450/greg1786/image_zpsb811317e.jpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They layed eggs!!!!!!! I was so excited I had to take pictures and share with everyone!!!!!! I couldnt believe it. When they first went into the sump I wasnt even sure they had bonded much less mated and laying eggs!!!!! Sorry for the long post but I had to share!

Ha that's cool stuff mate. I'm sure you'll see them spawning in the display too now that you've returned them. Thanks for the pic as i've never seen them lay eggs on a mesh bag before lol.

Very cool...

Mine used to lay eggs...then the male would get smart and started eating them. Guess he didn't want to pay child support? :sad2:

Is it me or does that just look like the ion exchange resin that is in a bag of chemi-pure?

It kind of does look like DI resin. Watch out, you're going to have a fight everytime you reach into the tank.

Thanks guys, theres at least 100 or more of them. I couldnt believe it!! I'm wondering now though, with the clowns in the DT and the eggs being in the sump, can they hatch? If they were to hatch, will any of the babies survive?

Alot depends on the flow they have, if you can add an air stone under them however if you dont have a rearing tank setup and rotifers going then i doubt any will survive.

But after looking at the pics closer, i doubt they are eggs

How can you tell from the photo that its di resin and not eggs? Ive never had them appear on any other bag of chemi pure in two and half years ive been using it. Also, the clownfish lived in the same area of the sump as the bag of cp. it seems to convinient that the only time I have the clowns in thw sump i get these eggs but never before in the two or more years ive been using the chemi pure. Are their certain things to look for to know the difference?

Only thing I'd add...when my clown lays eggs, they're usually perfectly uniform (straight line and in a square). But I don't know that they all do it that way...

I believe Chemi pure elite has DI resin and regular chemi pure does not. From that photo it looks like the spheres are on the inside of the bag.

If they are eggs they will either die or start to turn silvery and lose the orange within a few days. If they stay orange, they are DI beads...

I have never seen clowns lay eggs so scattered before, usually they are in a tight group.

here is a pic of mine.
