Fish Recommendation

I have a 50 Gallon Tank with 55 lbs of live rock and 40 lbs of live sand.

My stock list is:
1 Gladiator Clown
1 Orchid Dottyback
1 Bicolor Blenny
2 Peppermint Shrimp
Assorted Snails


I wanted to do maybe 1-2 more fish. Any recommendations? My Orchid is not aggressive at all it actually shares its little cave with the the shrimp just incase anyone was worried about its aggression. I do plan on adding soft corals later on.

Royal Gramma, any of the Flasher Wrasses, Firefish, Blue Reef Chromis

Thanks for the recs. I have heard Royal Gramma and Dottybacks arent very compatible but could just be case by case. I do like the flasher wrasses alot.

Would you recommend just one of the Blue Reef Chromis? I would love to add 2-3 of them but dont want to overstock

I've kept up to 7 small fish in my SPS dominated mixed reef tank 50 gallon tank without a problem, so I don't think adding 3 Blue Reef Chromis would be a problem. They are less inclined to kill each other off in a small tank than the standard Blue/Green Chromis, but interspecies aggression could still see them kill each other.

I've not had luck with Chromis. They killed each other off and the last one decided to carpet surf. If you want grouping fish, i think some of the cardinals would be your best bet. Not banggai, but threadfin, red spot, etc.. Not the most colorful though. Maybe a citrinis clown goby or a hawkfish?

I agree with a reef safe wrasse. Good fish to have in any tank.

Reef safe wrasses are great. Good colors and pretty mellow. They can jump out of the tank though. Keeping the lid covered somehow and not stressing them out is also important. I have backed off of messing with my tank because of this. Probably another reason my tank is doing better.


I have a longnose hawkfish in my DT for 2 yrs now with no shrimp loss. For whatever that's worth. They are very friendly and cool personalities. With antheas make sure they eat at the LFS before you take them home. Do very well in groups. I have eight of them. Hope this helps.

Yeah I am fairly certain a 50 gallon tank is way too small for anthias. I wish it wasnt because they are pretty fish. I do like wrasses but the only flasher wrasse at my LFS doesnt look all that healthy, colors are very faded. They do have a geometric hawkfish though which i know are peaceful but from what I have read are very skiddish.
