Any suggestions for corals that would grow well on a shaded vertical rock face? I want the coral to be low profile (hugging the rock) as I am growing a acans under the rock face and don't want them shaded too much. I guess the corals would have to be low light as they are shaded by the rock face. I was thinking zoas or an encrusting monti?

zoas will work, the monti will probably need more light then what it will get in the shade.

somethign like green star polyps will crawl up the shade, but they might also make i to the top then explode and take over.

Thanks for the reply. Will zoas be able to grow if they stay shaded?

Im trying something similar with my gsp on raw glass. It has just started growing off the frag disk and seems to be working so far.

I had thought of gsp but wanted to avoid it as it can take over a tank....

Anyone have any success with mushrooms growing on a vertical rock face? Will it work or will they just detach and move to another spot?

mushrooms ive had in the past in shade will just stretch their body to get the polyp in their prefered lighting.

Would a sun coral grow well on a vertical rock face? However, it would likely shade the Acans below...

Great suggestions. Thank you. Not sure which direction to go with this... I was thinking of trying a Favites (war coral) but I gather they are quite aggressive and I am worried about the scan I will have growing beneath it!

Sun coral would work, what you described is where you would find them placement wise in the wild
