So after my last lil battle with RB's I decided to set up a small 2.5 gallon tank with HOB filter, with filter floss and a pinch of carbon and a heater to QT my new corals. Trying to learn from my mistakes.
Now I did an initial dip with bayer to remove and surface pests, I do have another RB treatment pill, but would like to save that for another mistake (if it happens again).
Can I continue to do the bayer dip every 7 days to ensure that any unwanted hitchhikers are eradicated? Does bayer work on the bigger threats like AEFW and Monti Nudis?

Bayer has very little, to no effect on AEFW... According to the of research I have done...

Levamisole...
I have some, like plenty of it, if maybe you wana trade for some bam bams ;) lol...
No but seriously, I have a few packets, and your welcome to one if you need it... One packet will be more than most people would ever need...

I've been meaning to snip a few of them off. When I do, I will let you know.
I really like the maricultured ones, I know alot of them are hit or miss as to what they will become since they come from the ocean, but I like the mystery.

I respectfully disagree.
I have dipped SPS colonies and have seen AEFW fly off the coral.

I stand corrected... I have no personal experience in treating them, only went by what I've read and I haven't read enough I suppose... If Bauer does in fact kill them, then that's one less thing to worry about, as its readily available and AEFW are more common than people realize... Always take precautionary measures ;)
Glad it worked for you warren, and thank you for correcting me...

Bayer works best.
also a little bit of advice, cut them off the bases. 90 percent of the pests even after all the debts will still live with in the base. only to come out when you least expect them. when I get wild colonies the first thing I do is cut them off the base before dip. I Dry the bases out for the next round of corals. what I mean is when you cut the bases of don't throw them away save them for next time to reattach

I'm not sure what is "best", but for aefw, levamisole is a proven method and way to kill the flatworm, according to many threads and articles, and big sps keepers here on RC... If Bayer works as well, sweet... But folks should also know levamisole is extremely effective...

During my next treatment I will cut the bases off. The one on the left will be hard as the base is huge and I don't have a coral saw. The others I can hopefully do without destroying.

Neal, I have never heard of Levamisole. Care to elaborate on it? Where to get it and what the suggested treatment/ dose is?
Thanks Jas

i have it, proven by me, bayer is best. also livamiasole is hard on sps over numbers of dips in a row.
also OP , dipping coral at 7 days is good, however very difficult to do this in QT.
1.. you never get all dip off( could be fatal in small tank) trust me
2.. red bugs have a larval(swim) stage. so dipping then returning to QT isnt always effective.
3..wild pieces are hard to get comfortable even in stable reef. QT should have growing sps in it , and you are comfortable doing so.
i enjoy wild sps way more then so called "high end", but not easy. good luck. i love it:)

My method for dipping includes a triple rinse (although i'm sure there is residual dip left), I also threw some carbon in the filter as well to help soak up anything that may be left, and I plan on dumping the water that it is currently in and giving it fresh water for the next week of QT. So far everything has good polyp extension, but I'd rather make sure with these vs putting them in the display and losing everything.

just trying to give you a heads up from some of my experiences, I too have also been bringing in a lot of wild SPS. but at the very minimum cut off the bases, like you stated you would. in my opinion this is the most overlooked problem.

I will def cut off the bases, unfortunately this is the only tank I have for the QT purpose, i guess its better than gambling with the DT, lol.
Any idea on how to cut the base of a very thick encrusting colony like the one on the left?
And please dont think I am overlooking your advice, I am doing everything I can with what I currently have to keep a pest free system. If I lose these pieces due to a QT error I wont care, got them really cheap so it will be a learning experience if anything.

I don't think it over looking at all, as for the cutting them off I use a dremel diamond disc and or bone cutters. I personally don't care if I break one in half I end up calling them back together on my own homemade base.
I sacrifice all that is in encrusted
