I have a 72 gallon bow front with a CPR Aquafuge 2 ps. I decided to upgrade to a sump.

I got a great deal on a 29 gallon DIY sump. And it doesn't fit.

Tank is full and I'm thinking about draining it half way to lighten the load.

Then somehow reinforcing the front and removing the center brace.

Opinions? Anyone with experience with this?

I would build a carriage around it with a 2 by 4 under the stand holding the weight so nu can remove the brace then put it back in

Can you explain or maybe a link or pictures what you mean by carriage?

Not really but a couple boards on either end up and down then one across the front of the stand and another behind , then a board under the stand joining the two holding the weight

Also, if you do that, realize that when you put the brace back in, it will be shorter by two saw kerfs.

Yea I was thinking about that. I think I might just replace it with a new 2x4 cut to exact length

You could cut out the side that covers the actual wood that supports the stand like this really great idea. http://www.melevsreef.com/install_sump.html

Tank is on a 45 degree angle in a corner so can't go that route. I've actually decided to upgrade to a RR tank :-)
