So I purchased a stubby clown and most say they should have been slaughtered at birth but I couldn't imagine having a different clown. Such a awesome personality, he always follows me around the tank ank rubs againt my hand like he is hosting in it. My question is where can I get another one??? Are these genetics passabble or is it like a fish being born with one eye and it won't happen the next gen?

My baby ;)

This has been discussed before, but the reason most people recommend culling these is because they don't want this abnormality to spread. I don't know if it's a fact, but I suspect most breeders are culling these so they might be hard to find.

I don't know enough about genetics to tell you that this defect will continue if two of these "stubbies" are bred. However, many believe that the reasons for these types of physical defects are poor water quality or poor nutrition especially prior to meta -- in other words brought on by environmental effects, not necessarily genetic.

Where did you purchase your clown from? I'm guessing they'll know if they can get you another one.

I have one to a love it. Most people don't even notice the diffrence until I tell them. I don't know where you are and probably a long shot but pets warehouse in Carle Place, NY had a bunch.

A note from the freshwater world...about 1 percent of all Jack Dempsey fry are runts. People culled them for decades. Then some lazy bum forgot to cull and it grew up into an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey. I am lucky to have four of these at 4 to 5 inches in my 210 Amazon biotope. They are beautiful and have great personalities (I don't think anybody ever said that about regular Jacks).

And let me say that these kinds of changes are not abominations. This is called genetic variability. And its a good thing.

I don't know what area you're in but here in Miami, FL I see them at the local store all the time. Cute little guys, I love when they are chunky and little stubs. They look like little meat ball clowns lol one in a small nano would be cool
