I will be on vacation 8/5 out of the country and planned on having someone stop in to help with topping off and feeding. ( just softies and fish). At the very last minute my help is very nervous and worried that he may screw up. Although I appreciate his help, I'd like to get my setup as automated as I can.
I was wondering if anyone has a used feeder and or an ATO for top-off purposes.
My problem is, I am not sure how an ATO would work without a sump. Any ideas?
My location: Hamden
Thanks

Lol, you're in luck. I live in Hamden. ATO's do nor require a sump. Just put float switched in the tank. Do you own an ATO?
How long is vacation?

Unfortunately, I don't. I just figured I try my luck on here. I am expected to be back between 8/16-8/19. (making an unexpected stop)

As a general rule, bad idea to add equipment to your tank right before going away, especially if it will be completely unsupervised. Perhaps a local reefer here can look in on it for you, just don't fall for the 'all your fish died while you were gone and I had to get rid of them' line :):)

Make it simple for sitter:
Mark high & low water level & have RO water on hand for top off.
Mark a feeding container with instruction to feed this amount every 2 or 3 days.
Leave a net out in case of a death.
A magnet for cleaning glass & stay away from the sand instructions ( very important for scratch free glass)
Leave your # in case.

I agree keep it Simple
Leave RO and a line in for high limit and tell them to fill to that line every time they are there.
Pre-package food in daily doses so they can just pour it in (I use the specimen cups from PC for frozen food)
Leave a net and I don't have anyone do anything like clean the tank but that is just me.

Haha, very true... The plan is that he'd continue to supervise with minimal responsibilities.

Very good idea, except leaving a net out.:furious::furious:
I will attempt to find a mediset -capped plastic tray used in nursing homes for leaving daily medications and place food only in day I want fish to be fed.
