i have a feather duster worm that, well, i think the picture is worth a thousand words...

there is another littler mushroom growing there, too. i don't know how i would ever remove these without stressing the worm out which i don't want to do. but...?

Yeah, they'll keep reproducing on the tube. I'd think it would eventually stress the duster out and it will probably bail from the tube.

thanks, adrienne, but if handle it enough to get these off of the tube, won't that stress the worm, too?

Just do it gently. I recently had to remove some GSP that had grown up the tube of one of my worms, I just gently peeled it off with no ill effects to the worm.

Yes, just be very gentle and try not to tear the tube. You'll have to remove all of the mushrooms' flesh. Any flesh remaining on the tube will just regrow into a new shroom.

Or if you can't remove all of it, you might be able to put some super glue over any remaining flesh to prevent it from growing back...just a thought because I'm sure a mushroom will be harder to completely remove than gsp.
