View Full Version : All question do corals sometimes all of sudden start or stop taking in

What I'm trying to figure out is I've been dosing about 375 of brs alk a day and uesturday I tested my water and its usually around upper 7 to low 8 but was closer to 9 I havnt changes anything or done a water change nothing! Do corals sometimes change the amount they absorb either way or has any of u guys seen this before ? Hope my question makes sense ? Thanks

Yes, corals ,coraline or other calcifying organisms can go through periods of slow to no growth;sometimes related to some sort of stressor like alck of O2 or a nutrient variation. It is often seen in low alk and calcium uptake; though, that's not a really good indicator of coral health as the alk rise could be from something else.

Ok thanks for the reply the only thing I can think of is my power went out for 20 mon throwing my light timer off a little not sure if that would stress the corals to much

Do you mean 20 minutes? That's not enough of a time shift to cause any problems.
