Not sure why, I did a ton of research before building my sump, but all the silicone is turning yellow?

I used GE Silicone 1 from Home Depot, and let it cure a few days to a week , before filling the sump?

Have you recently built this? Check to see if they added mildew inhibitors into it.

Yes, About 2 months ago

I did not see they did, the GE 2 was labeled with the mildew inhibitors, but not the GE1

What should I do if they did, remove the sump, clean it all off, and start over?

I was thinking of re-designing my sump anyway

I wanted to move the return over and put the refugium in the middle

You are correct about the GE 2 they have added inhibitors to that model. I have never used the Ge brand but I know that is the main reason why you do not use just any silicone on aquariums because of the inhibitors. In this hobby I have found you are better of safe then sorry. Sorry usually means a lot of money lol. I would clean it off since you are planning on redesigning your sump anyway. I would put the return pump in the middle the skimmer on the left and the refugium on the right since the refugium does not need a lot of flow.

That's how I have it, I'll slow the flow down to the return area

Everything I read, GE 1 was safe

FWIW, I used Aqueon silicone for the baffles in my sump and have had the silicone turn yellow. Whatever the cause, it has nothing to do with mold inhibitors.

Ohh, good to know !!! Perfect, Then I'll assume it's harmless other then ugly :)

My sump baffles are doing the same, but also turning yellow and black at the same time. I used GE I without the mold inhibitor. Doesn't seem to have any ill effects on livestock, but I think I will change to RTV next time.

give it time - it will eventually go back to white(ish) what you are seeing on there is probably algae. Mine did that when I first set it up - has since gone away.

Thank you, I'm about to pull it out, and go with RTV silicone and glass baffles. Not sure yet

you can use an old toothbrush to clean it off.

Mine did the same thing and is yellow to this day (about 9 months). Doesnt seem to have an effect on anything. Made me nervous at the time as well!
