View Full Version : Vega vs Sol vs Hydra

Talk to me about your experience with these fixture.
I have a 120g tank 48x24x24. I curently run a 8x54w T5.
I want to switch to Led. I will go with AI for sure...but Iam hesitating between these 3 fixture....money is not an issue.

I'd go with the Hydra. I've had Sol in the past (the Sol was, and still is, an awesome light), but the Hydra has so much more color control. I just went from Sol to Hydra and am very happy.

I had sol's for a few months over my 46 bowfront and they were a good light...a little to blue for me, so i upgraded to the hydra. I like the color control. Although with the hydra you cannot use the custom power pucks so what you see is what you get with the hydra....end of story. I am loving the hydra and the price tag to. I have them mounted lengthwise and about 7 inches off the water.

Why the Vega are more expensive...what the advantage to go with this?

With the vega you have the option to order customizable pucks to change out the LEDs.

I know you said you want to go with ai, but did you ever consider the maxspect razor. I went from a ai sol to the razor and I love it. With the sol my acan change to an ugly green color, but with the razor it turned back to the rainbow color it once was.

The coverage of the hydra is 36x36 so I think you'll need two of em

I passed all day on internet to read some reviews and I am hesitating between 3 AI hydra or 2 Radion pro. I want lot of light...I like nice sunny reef.

Get 2x maxspect razor 120w 16k. They are far better then AI imo. If u insist on AI. Only the hydra looks decent.

if radion, only the radion pro looks good IMO.. but i wont pay such a high price for that.. ill rather get a reefbreeders/Evergrow and spend the other money on other stuff.
