I just officially fragged for the first time. By officially, I mean using a razor blade, not just chiseling a piece of a rock off. All zoanthids.
What steps do you all take after fragging zoa/palys to ensure they heal properly??
Thanks!!:bounce1:

You could dip them in iodine or revive to help them heal up with less risk but as long as the stalks are not cut up I usually just cut them, glue them, and put them in the tank. I would highly recommend doing the iodine or revive dipping after fragging if you accidentally hacked any of the polyps stalks up though because thats where most of the risk is when fragging

Makes sure you thoroughly wash after and do not touch your face. Zoas/palys some have very toxic slime used by South Americans to hunt with. Paly toxin is no joke!

Very true! If you can't or don't want to wear rubber gloves then definitely wash your hands thoroughly a few times after you are done fragging

+1. The wife puts on her fragin gear and preps the bar. She sets up a light, towels, gloves, goggles, glue, plugs (that have been setting in the tank) and goes to town. I hate messing with zoos and palys. She just puts directly back in tank, but as discussed wont cut stalks, just the "mats". We find it's better to cut at least 3 to 4 from underneath dragging the scalpel along the plug to get a mat of zoos. Congrats as we'll.

Most were pretty clean cuts...but I didn't wash my hands as thoroughly as I should have. I would be feeling ill by now, though, right?

I dip everything after I do anything to any coral.... I would be considered an over dipper but I always have a great survival rate.

Tweaked,
You mentioned you have plugs in the tank, I understood it as that they are curing, what is the reason behind this method?
Thanks
Mike

The plugs I get are Oceans Wonders from BRS, and the package mentions something about the amount of new plugs a tank can handle at once. So to keep it simple, we throw a bunch in the corner every so often to start the curring process. Besides, who likes bright white frag plugs. Seems right, but I could be wrong- been known for that lol

I also read that the ceramic plugs can get bubbles in/on them which make it harder for glue to stay fastened and can also cause algae to grow where the bubbles are.
