Ok so here's my dilemma, and it may be nothing but want some opinions anyway.
I have a 140 gallon tank that is 48"x 24"x 27.75" the problem I have is the overflow only goes up 22" basically turning the tank into a 110 gallon tank. I haven't been able to find any overflows that tall and I really don't want to see the water line. So is it going to be easier to build an overflow with acrylic or am I going to have to drop the hood that I'm building. Then I am also wondering about the size of tank I should use as my sump/refug I will have 42" length and 21.5" from front to back and 26" of height under the tank inside the stand. Thanks for any info, look forward to hearing from the community.

I would either extend the overflow by adding on to it (and covering the existing teeth) or replace it. I would stop the overflow about 1/2" from the top in case the teeth get clogged, you want the water to flow over the top of the overflow, not over the top of the tank onto your floor. Since I am comfortable working with acrylic I would build a custom sized sump, but a 40 gallon breeder (36" x 18" x 17") would work fine.

replace, likely you have a custom drilled tank with standard 120G overflows.

Thanks for the info, any ideas on where to buy an overflow that tall, I do have access to acrylic but am not familiar working with it.
