the foscam is a good baby monitor but not clear for reef tank viewing.

That's awesome! Could you post or PM me some of the information as to the equipment/camera required for that type of setup?

Foscam is a great one to. Has pan tilt.

The problem I have with the foscam (I have two of them) is the resolution.

I took them down and only have the axis now.

I started with a foscam. But found that the resolution was not what I wanted.

I started to look for some of the axis cameras. I came across a 214 and got it quick.

I have DSL so my upload speed is not as quick as I wish I had. That is why it seems to lag a bit when watching it.

I setup my router for port forwarding. Both my apex and camera are set up.

The camera is mounted to the ceiling and power/network connection ran to it.

The range is limited to the tank area, otherwise you could look around the basement more.

What other questions do you have. Ask away.

Raleigh huh??

All my family is in Cary, Benson, and Johnston county.

Thanks for the info!

When you say the resolution with the Foscam wasn't very good, was it like night and day between it and the Axis? An Axis definitely isn't in the budget haha! At least there isn't much other equipment required. From what I've been able to tell most of the cameras come with their own software to view it.

I may give the Foscam a go at some point, seeing as it's very affordable for a controllable camera.

I lived in Cary for a while, my parents still live there. Grandparents are in Apex, and some of the wife's family is in Benson and Johnston County. Great area!

Yes night and day. Just not enough resolution for what I wanted. The IR is nice though.

Yeah I got the axis for a good deal and could not pass it up, but it put a dent in the fish budget.

I like the axis because I can control what the end user sees by putting some left and right stop points on it. Otherwise they might catch me going up or down the stairs during the night... AND THIS IS A FAMILY CHANNEL. LOL

Haha I hear ya. That's a nice feature being able to control where others can look. Thanks for all the info!

Love my drop cam.

It is, however, a bandwidth hog.

It doesn't have pan or tilt.

BUT

Setup is a breeze and for 10 bucks a month I can look up 7 days of stored video.

I hate my foscam. HATE. The image sucks. The lights are way too bright for it, blows out the image. Been looking for something else.
All its good for is making sure my tank is still running because i can see the water level.

I took my foscam and put it up against the glass in one spot, after I got my axis. That made for a neat view.

Just ordered 2 of the Drop Cams. From what I saw on what is currently available, they are much better than all the rest.

Should have them up and running next week. I will post the live feed of my tank for you to see.
