View Full Version : Unsuccessful experience with JB Waterweld

I have used JB Waterweld several times to attach frags to liverock. I used it again 3 days ago on a little Duncan frag, mounting it to a piece of live rock at about a 45 degree angle. Yesterday I noticed that the frag had changed angle, and then it actually fell out of the "weld". I then cleaned the JB Weld off of the live rock and it had not really hardened. The tube of JB Waterweld has been open for about a month but the cap is always on. Could it have somehow gone bad? What gives?

You probably didn't knead it well enough. If you don't do this correctly, it won't "activate" so to say and turn hard.

I've come to prefer super glue to epoxy personally.

I agree. Dollar tree has 3 little tubes of super glue gel for $1.

Yep super glue works great every time.
Skimmer will/may go crazy for a day but that is minor.

Super glue is definitely my drug of choice but sometimes you need the 'filler' like the waterweld. I've also had a hard time using some of the alternatives. So I started forming the epoxy around the frag but not expecting a permanent bond. One or two days later I check the fit. If it doesn't hold I use the superglue between the frag and epoxy. This works for me 100% of the time
